LUMA: Small Works
ABOUT:
We’ve always envisioned LUMA completely transforming Binghamton's urban core into something unrecognizable across festival weekend. Time and time again, we’ve successfully transformed buildings throughout the festival footprint into morphing multistory canvases. But what happens as you wander in between? We want the intrigue to continue. This brings me to LUMA Small Works. As a former Production Director, active artist, and creator of opporuntieis for my fellow creatives this project exists at the convergence of many of my passions. At LUMA 10, we ran our first international open call and debuted the activation of forgotten nooks, corners, and pockets of Binghamton with tech and light-based artworks.
My role was in shaping this project from concept to completion. I built out the open call, vetted applicants, assessed potential spaces, and selected the final artworks based a variety of factors. I maintained artist communications and contracting paperwork while working with a tech team on site planning. During tech week I coordinated installations and oversaw troubleshooting of unforeseen circumstances.
this project:
Brought to life 9 distinct installations
Supported the work of 14 artists (7 local, 5 regional, 2 international)
Supported artists at every career stage, from early career to established
Centered interactivity and diversity in artistic practices
